Episode #325 – Let’s Not Sugarcoat the News About Vintage 2015

The most highly reported story from the wine industry this year is the harvest of 2015 and the impact the severe 4-year west coast drought has had on production. If you’re a wine enthusiast, chances are you don’t know who to believe.

Some say the production is not off all that much, while grape growers in some regions report catastrophic losses and production down as much as 80%. Now while we always like to present stories in the most positive light, it just seems plain ridiculous to sugarcoat what is obvious to anyone that has an intimate connection with the wine biz… 2015 is shaping up to be an economic disaster. And beyond that, not all wine experts are convinced that there is a silver lining to the story. That is to say, despite low yields, the quality of wines is going to be exceptional.
