Episode #712 – Unlocking Hollywood Flavors: Oscar-Inspired Wine and Movie Pairing!

It seems like no conversation about wine is complete unless there is some discussion about pairing wine with food. If you’re a longtime Grape Encounters listener, you know that we pair wine with a lot more than food. From the very beginning, we’ve been telling you about off-the-wall pairings like wine and music and how certain music can actually improve your perception of the some wines by more than 50%. Another thing that we’ve been doing for most of the 15 years that we’ve been on the air is pairing wine with the Best Picture nominees at the Academy Awards. Now, there’s nothing scientific about this… In fact, we go about this, kind of like that game, “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.” The idea is to come up with Wines that can somehow be connected to the films. The connection can relate to the name of the film, its actors and actresses, the movie title, and so much more. It’s entirely up to you, and it’s a whole lot of fun. So, if you give a listen to this episode of Grape Encounters, you’ll quickly get the point. And the best part is you can play this game by yourself or with friends every time a conversation involves a movie, television show, or even a song.

But it’s not all whimsical fun and games. On this episode of Grape Encounters, David explains why thinking about what you’re drinking while watching Netflix or Amazon Prime actually matters. With his fanatical attention to detail, David explains his pairing strategy and how he personally pairs wines with programs based on their intensity and seriousness. David explains why Cabernet Sauvignon pairs nicely with edge-of-your-seat films, Zinfandel with more playful movies, light bubbly programs for sitcoms and other comedies, and so on. There’s no wrong answer when it comes to wine and movie pairings, so why not try something new? Listen to this week’s episode of Grape Encounters Radio and find out what type of wines are perfect with your favorite program.
